February 2003
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
As of January 2003, over 3000 copies of "Flying and Learning: Basics for Every
Pilot," by William P. Heitman, were distributed to pilots in many of the fifty
states and nine different foreign countries. Also, favorable book reviews
continue to be found in national and international aviation magazines. Pilots
love this book!
Some well-known writers and pilots have endorsed "Flying and Learning: Basics
for Every Pilot." William K. Kershner, author of some of the best known flight
training books stated, "Mr. Heitman has done a yeoman's job with his book. It
belongs in the library of every pilot, right next to all my books." Stephen
Coonts, pilot, attorney and author of numerous best-selling action-adventure
stories has said, "Heitman's book is a well-written, easy-to- understand
explanation of the basic information every pilot should know. I recommend it
highly." Dolph Overton, Korean War F-86 ace proclaimed, "Extraordinary in it's
simplicity. One of the best ever written."
The book is sold now at some of the most prestigious museums in the United
States. Of special interest is the fact that the gift store at the Wright
Brothers' National Monument in Kill Devil Hills, NC carries this
flight-training text. This is the only book on learning how to fly currently
sold on the First Flight premises. "Flying and Learning: Basics for Every
Pilot" earned this honor, as it was reviewed by National Park staff and
historians at the Wright Brothers' museum prior to its being made available
there.
Mr. Heitman was honored to perform a prestigious book signing at the Wright
Brothers' National Monument on August 19th, 1999. This is the anniversary of
Orville Wright's birthday. The National Park staff at First Flight always
celebrates Orville's birthday by allowing free admission to the First Flight
grounds and inviting special guests to attend. Modern flight began with Orville
at the controls on December 17, 1903.
On December 17, 2001, William P. Heitman was honored once again as he was
selected to be one of only a handful of civilian pilots to participate with the
military in the ceremonial fly-over the Wright Brothers' Memorial on the 98th
anniversary of First Flight. Mr Heitman flew his own single-seat , experimental
built Pitts Special aerobatic biplane. This was the only experimental aircraft
to participate in this event.
No matter how you view it this small flight training text, which in 156 pages
takes the pilot from a thorough pre-flight, through a trip around the traffic
pattern at a non-towered field, pilots everywhere love this book. Student
pilots have written and emailed Dreamflyer Publications with a fistful of
testimonials about how the book has helped them with their visualization of the
traffic pattern and the landing phase od flight. The book also has proved to be
beneficial to pilots going for their Biennial Flight Review and to the right
seat "pinch hitter," who wants to know just enough, just in case.
"Flying and Learning: basics for Every Pilot" retails for $14.95. Shipping and
handling charges are $3.00 within the USA and $5.00 international. North
Carolina residents should add $1.05 NC state sales tax as well. Inquiries can
be made to Dreamflyer Publications, P. O. Box 11583, Durham, NC 27703-0583.
Copies of the text can be autographed by request.
